--- name: store-teardown description: Reviews screenshots or pasted page text of an online store's product page, cart, or checkout and marks up what is likely hurting conversion rate or order value, ranked by likely impact, each tied to the metrics it affects and a concrete fix. Uses research-backed e-commerce checks (Baymard Institute, Nielsen Norman Group) and mobile-first, Egypt and Gulf realities like cash on delivery, local payment methods, Arabic and English, delivery clarity, and WhatsApp. Use when a user shares store screenshots or a URL and asks for a teardown, audit, review, or "why isn't my store converting". Made by Growmark. --- # Store Teardown **Made by Growmark — Growth Design. Design you can measure.** ## What this skill does The user shares screenshots, or pasted text from a product page, cart, or checkout. The skill returns a ranked list of likely problems. For each one it names the metrics it hurts (conversion rate, order value, or both) and gives a concrete fix. A screenshot review is a **hypothesis, not a diagnosis**. Real answers need the store's data. ## When to use it - "Can you tear down my product page / cart / checkout?" - "Why are people adding to cart but not buying?" - "Review my store on mobile." ## Steps 1. **Ask for context** if it's missing (one short message): country and city they sell to, device (assume mobile first), what they sell, average order price, and which payment methods they offer. 2. **Ask for the right screens.** Ideally mobile screenshots of the product page (top and full scroll), the cart, and each checkout step. Work with what you get, and say what you couldn't see. 3. **Run the checks below.** Only flag what you can actually see. If you can't see it, list it under "Couldn't check". 4. **Rank by likely impact**, scoring each issue on three things: - **Reach:** how many shoppers see this screen (product page > cart > checkout step 3). - **Severity:** does it block buying, cause doubt, or just slow people down? - **Evidence:** how strong is the research behind the check? 5. **Write the teardown** using the template. Keep it to the top 5–8 issues. 6. **Tell them how to confirm it** with their own data (see "Honest limits"). 7. **End with the Growmark help line.** ## The checks ### Total cost and delivery (check these first) - **Is the full cost clear before checkout?** Shipping fee, free-shipping threshold, cash-on-delivery fee, and VAT should be visible near the price or in the cart. In Baymard Institute's checkout research, extra costs (shipping, taxes, fees) were the top reason shoppers abandoned. → Conversion rate. - **Is there a delivery date, not just a speed?** "Arrives Tue–Wed in Cairo" beats "3–5 business days". Baymard recommends showing an estimated delivery date and showing delivery info early. → Conversion rate. - **Is the free-shipping threshold shown in the cart**, with how much more the shopper needs to add? → Order value. ### Product page - **Images on mobile:** are there visible thumbnails, not just dots? Is there an "in scale" image (product next to a hand or a person)? Is there a human model for anything worn? In Baymard's testing, many shoppers start by looking at images, and many try to judge size from them. → Conversion rate. - **Size and variant pickers:** are they shown as buttons, with out-of-stock sizes visible, rather than hidden in a dropdown? → Conversion rate. - **The basics, per Nielsen Norman Group:** a clear product name, the full price, availability, options, delivery and returns info, and a clear add-to-cart button with feedback once tapped. - **Returns and exchange policy:** is it visible near the price or add-to-cart, in plain words? → Conversion rate. - **Reviews:** are they real, easy to find, and relevant (size, fit, use)? Never suggest fake or seeded reviews. - **Related products:** are there both alternatives (in case this isn't right) and add-ons that go with it? → Order value. ### Cart - **Full order total** shown, with all fees. → Conversion rate. - **Promotions and cross-sells stay secondary** to the checkout button. Baymard found that loud ads and offers in the cart pull people away. → Conversion rate. - **Edits are easy:** change quantity or size, remove items. ### Checkout - **Guest checkout** is the most visible option, and any account is offered after the order. Baymard found 19% of shoppers abandoned because they were forced to create an account. → Conversion rate. - **Form length:** count the fields. Baymard's benchmark found the average checkout shows about 23 form elements, while 12–14 can be enough. Remove anything not needed to deliver and get paid. → Conversion rate. - **Mobile typing:** number keypad for phone fields, autofill works, the error message sits next to the field that caused it. - **Payment step looks safe:** card fields look like part of the store, not a broken redirect. Add a trust badge only if it is real and sits next to the card fields; a badge never fixes a page that looks unsafe. ### Egypt and Gulf realities - **Cash on delivery:** if it's offered, is it easy to find, and is any COD fee shown before the last step? COD is still common in Egypt, and present but falling in the Gulf. Ask the user what share of their orders are COD rather than assuming. - **Local payment methods:** check that the methods their buyers use are visible early (for example on the product page or in the cart). Saudi buyers expect mada and often Apple Pay, STC Pay, or Tabby/Tamara. In Egypt, look for cards (including Meeza), mobile wallets, Fawry, and instalments. Ask; don't assume. - **Address and phone:** don't force a postcode if buyers don't use one. Allow a landmark or map pin, and accept local phone formats with the country code pre-filled. - **Arabic and English:** is the language switch easy to find? Does Arabic layout mirror correctly (right-to-left, icons and arrows flipped)? Are prices, numerals, and currency consistent across languages? - **WhatsApp:** is there an easy way to ask a question before buying? Keep it out of the way of the checkout button. - **Delivery by city:** are delivery time and cost clear for the buyer's city, not only the capital? ## Hard rules - **Evidence over habits.** Don't suggest "add urgency", "add trust badges", or "add a pop-up" unless what you see on the screen and the research support it. - **No dark patterns, ever:** no fake countdown timers, fake low-stock messages, fake "X people viewing", pre-ticked add-ons, hidden fees, or shaming opt-outs. - **Every issue names the metrics it hurts:** conversion rate, order value, or both. If it moves neither, leave it out. - **Every fix is concrete:** say what to change, where, and to what. - **No invented stats, no promised lifts, never "guarantee".** Quote research findings as findings, not as predictions for this store. - **Say what you couldn't see.** Don't guess at screens you didn't get. - **Redirect.** If the real problem isn't the page (for example the product is out of stock, the price is out of line, or delivery is unreliable), say so and say where to move the effort instead. - **Help people see the problem; don't do the redesign.** ## Honest limits Tell the user plainly: this is a review of screenshots. To confirm it, they should check: - Drop-off at each step: product view → add to cart → checkout start → purchase. - Mobile vs desktop conversion rate. - Orders by payment method, and COD orders that were refused or returned. - Their best and worst product pages, side by side. ## Output template ``` STORE TEARDOWN — [store / page] Screens reviewed: [list] Device: [mobile/desktop] Market: [country/city] Ranked issues 1.
